March 9th - 11th 2013

setting-up

Wednesday the 6th of March is the set up day for our display at the Ballarat Begonia Festival.

On Saturday 10 December 2011, the Backyard Bounty project celebrated the end of the project and all their achievements!

Guest of honour was Costa Georgiadis who helped launch the project at the start of the year!  You may have seen Costa on TV: SBS "Costa's Garden Odyssey" and on the ABC "Gardening Australia" in 2012.

Royal Park Buninyong was the venue and FoRP and the Buninyong Community Garden were very happy to be a part of it and host the festivities

More photos on the Ballarat Permaculture guild site.

Cr Des Hudson, Paul Ryle, Cr John Phillips, Andrea Mason and Mayor Cr Craig FletcherFriends of Royal Park received $5,000 towards heating and hot water installation and were among thirty two community organisations and not for profit groups to share in funding thanks to the City of Ballarat's Community Impact Grants Program.

As the number of user groups and volunteers grows, so does our need to consider the ongoing comfort of the management committee, meeting participants, workshop participants, community members and other users as they provide ongoing management of the facilities, support the members of the sporting and gardening groups and undertake community engagement activities.

Currently the building has no heating or hot water and our capacity to use and attract users during the colder months is greatly reduced. Demonstrating sustainable choices is key to our aims and the choice of gas heating and instantaneous hot water is an important part of that.

If you're thinking about planting - think about using Greensmart Pots and fill them with Grow Better Organic Potting Mix!

Funds raised will help us continue to maintain and improve our facilities.

See us at the Ballarat Fresh Produce Market, Bridge Mall, 1st Saturday of the month, phone Vicki, 0458 903 043.

If you want something bigger, why not rent a plot in the Buninyong Community Garden.

Saturday 8th December 5pm - 6 pm Buy, swap & sell. Bring your homegrown produce, seedlings, potted plants, craft items or works of art. Like the title says, you can buy, swap or sell with others until 6 pm sharp when the tables are cleared to prepare for feasting! (Might this be the greatest way to get Christmas presents for friends and family?) 6pm - 11:30 Christmas Party & music has been promised from some talented members (or their relatives!)   We are hosting a Christmas Party this Saturday 8th December.  The event is organised by The Ballarat Permaculture Guild and BREAZE (Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions) local food group, Smart Living Ballarat, Ballarat Community Garden and Friends Of Royal Park members are all invited. It's a BYO event - and a BBQ will be available, as well as tea and coffee. The party starts at 6.00pm, but will be preceded by a 'produce swap and sell', where people can swap their surplus veggies, fruit, herbs, seedlings etc. Any not swapped can be bought for a gold coin donation - proceeds to Friends of Royal Park. Hope you can make it. PS - a large cypress has fallen in the car park, so please park on Hedrick Street.

RP-2009-06

Last week I tried a move of the FoRP web site to a server that offers free web space to not for profit organisation.

After hours of work with thier support department, I have given up and moved the site again to a server that is optimised for running our joomla site!
